About Mayur Virarkar MD

I am an academic radiologist and physician leader, currently serving as Chief of the Division of Abdominal Imaging and Director of Quality and Research in the Department of Radiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. I am ABR-certified in Diagnostic Radiology with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Neuroradiology and have completed fellowship training in abdominal imaging, thoracic imaging, and neuroradiology at leading academic institutions, including MD Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

My work sits at the intersection of clinical excellence, quality improvement, imaging informatics, research innovation, and healthcare leadership. I maintain an active clinical practice while leading department- and system-level initiatives focused on operational excellence, value-based imaging, patient safety, AI-enabled workflows, and research strategy. I am a Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP), a Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP), and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (LSSBB). I am currently pursuing an Executive MBA at the Kellogg School of Management to strengthen further my expertise in healthcare strategy, finance, and organizational leadership.

At the national level, I hold leadership roles within the Society of Abdominal Radiology, including Co-Chair and Director of Research for the Neuroendocrine Neoplasms Disease-Focused Panel, and serve as Guest Editor for major radiology journals. My scholarly work spans > 100 published articles and book chapters on oncologic imaging, PET/MRI, ultrasound, radiomics, AI integration, and quality improvement, with a strong emphasis on translating innovation into real-world clinical impact.

I am particularly interested in roles and collaborations that advance precision imaging, clinical AI adoption, multidisciplinary care, and scalable quality frameworks across academic health systems. I value partnerships that bridge medicine, technology, and leadership to improve outcomes for patients and organizations alike.
